IPMAT is for the five-year integrated programmes at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak; JIPMAT is the NTA-conducted entrance for the five-year IPM at IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. JIPMAT is easier — all multiple choice, no short answers, no interview at most stages — while IPMAT Indore is the harder paper and the more competitive seat. Take both: the calendars do not clash and the preparation overlaps almost entirely.
These are not competing choices so much as two rungs of the same ladder. The only real decision is how much extra work the second one costs you, and the answer is almost none.

- Preparation is ~85% shared. Arithmetic, algebra, verbal ability and reasoning serve both papers. The extra work for JIPMAT is DI practice; the extra work for IPMAT Indore is short-answer drilling.
- Apply to both, and to Rohtak as well. Three applications, one syllabus.
- JIPMAT being "easier" does not make it a fallback you can leave unprepared — the seat count is small.
Which suits whom #
Take IPMAT seriously if you are aiming at the strongest IPM brand and can handle a paper with no options to reverse-engineer. Indore's short-answer section rewards genuine calculation.
JIPMAT deserves equal weight if you want the IIM tag and a five-year MBA route with a lower entry bar, or if your strength is speed on MCQs rather than clean derivation.
On placements, Indore leads clearly. Bodh Gaya and Jammu are newer IIMs with thinner but improving records — worth checking current placement reports rather than reputation.
