Stream does not matter for IPMAT. Commerce, Science and Humanities students are all eligible, Maths is not a required subject, and the exam tests the same Quantitative and Verbal Ability for everyone. What differs is your starting point: Science students usually begin ahead on Quant, Commerce students on arithmetic and interpretation, and Humanities students on the Verbal section.
The eligibility answer is short. The useful part is what each stream should do differently.

The only requirements are a 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD) and the age limit of 20.
Where each stream starts #
Science (PCM) — strongest Quant base, and the most likely to over-prepare Quant while neglecting Verbal. Your risk is a lopsided score. Note that the calculus and trigonometry you have drilled is not tested.
Commerce with Maths — arguably the ideal profile: business maths and statistics map directly onto IPMAT arithmetic and data interpretation.
Commerce without Maths — fully eligible, and the gap is smaller than it feels. The tested ground is arithmetic, algebra, numbers and basic geometry. Budget three to four extra months.
Humanities — usually the best Verbal scores in the cohort, which is a real advantage because Verbal is a third to a half of the paper. Build Quant from Class 10 fundamentals upward, in order.
- Whatever your stream, the paper is identical. Your stream changes your study order, not your ceiling.
- Science students: cap Quant practice and force Verbal into the schedule. A 40-mark Verbal section does not care about your PCM marks.
- Humanities and non-Maths Commerce students: do not start with mocks. Build the arithmetic base first or the mocks only measure the gap.
